Good café signage answers a customer’s questions in the order they have them: Are you open? Where do I order? What do you have and what does it cost? Where do I pick up? Where can I sit? Use this checklist to cover each step before opening day.
1. Front door
- Open/closed sign that reads from outside and inside. See the Sliding Open / Closed Sign.
- Hours on the door or window.
- Policy signs if needed, such as No Outside Food or Drink signs.
2. Ordering
- Order Here and Pick Up Here signs so the line forms in the right place. See our Order Here & Pick Up Here signs.
- A menu board visible from the line. For counters and tables, Modular Tabletop Menu Signs are easy to update.
3. Display case
- A label for every item with name and price. Modular Row Counter Signs (Box of 20) for one line per item, or Modular Counter Signs (Box of 12) for name, price and a note.
- Allergen information available at the register.
4. Seating
- Table numbers if you run food to tables. See Table Numbers 1–9.
- Reserved signs for bookings and events. See Reserved Table Signs.
5. Consistency
Signs from one family, with the same colors, lettering and finish, make a small café look considered. Choose a system you can update in seconds so your signs stay current after opening week.
